Three advantages of IPv6 in VoIP applications

VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol), as we all know, is the transmission of voice over the Internet. It is free from the constraints of telephone lines and spatial distance, making voice deployment simpler and more flexible, and voice services richer.

However, the existing Internet is running on the basis of IPv4 protocol and IP address resources are very limited, so VoIP applications have to face many unavoidable network problems such as network address translation NAT/STUN.

The advent of IPv6, the next generation Internet protocol, has solved the IP address shortage problem once and for all. Each server/endpoint uses a directly accessible "public address", eliminating the need for NAT translation of intranet addresses and NAT traversal using technologies such as STUN. This will make VoIP applications much simpler.

IPv6 also takes into account other issues that were not easily addressed in IPv4, such as end-to-end security, mobile communications, quality of service QoS, etc. Let's take a look at some of the advantages of IPv6 for VoIP applications.
Better voice quality
Faster and more real-time transmission of VoIP voice packets on IPv6 networks. This, combined with increased bandwidth and Quality of Service QoS guarantees at each node, results in better VoIP voice quality on IPv6 networks!
Safer Voice
IPv6 supports the security component IPSec, which can encrypt data at the network layer, greatly enhancing the security of VoIP voice.
IPv6 provides a fundamental solution to network security thanks to the introduction of IPSec and the resolution of network layer traceability challenges by using permanent IP addresses for sending devices, promising end-to-end security.
More flexible endpoint access
Thanks to the vast number of IPv6 addresses, each SIP endpoint can have a globally unique IPv6 address, which allows it to communicate with any host worldwide.
This means that IP telephony terminals can be plug-and-play on any network. At the same time, it is possible for mobile terminals to access VoIP servers remotely from anywhere, anytime.
With the real implementation of IPv6 and it's widespread popularity, VoIP applications, which were limited by IPv4 technology in the past, will see new development opportunities.
For this reason, New Rock HX4G/MX8G VoIP gateways are already the first to have IPv6 capability, fully supporting IPv6 protocols in carrier IMS access, SIP basic calling, TLS encryption, TR069 remote management, etc. Users can choose IPv4 or IPv6 access independently according to their network environment.
