What Exactly is a PBX(Private Branch Exchange)?

PBX stands for Private Branch Exchange, referring to a telephone system deployed within a company to route calls among users on local lines while enabling shared access to a limited number of external phone lines by all users. This system not only permits users to call each other internally but also handles various phone functionalities such as inbound and outbound calls, call forwarding, call transfer, call queuing,auto-attendants,voicemail,and more.

A PBX system essentially sets up an internal telephone network within an organization, facilitating communication through diverse channels like VoIP(Voice Over Internet Protocol)and ISDN(Integrated Services Digital Network). It operates using VoIP,PSTN(Public Switched Telephone Network,or analog landlines),or ISDN.By employing a PBX,the incoming telephone line to a business can be divided into multiple lines, thereby supporting a larger number of telephones.Furthermore, internal calls between users are free of charge.
